WOUNDED WARRIORS CANADA AND HABITAT FOR HUMANITY GREATER OTTAWA FORM NEW PARTNERSHIP
Ottawa – Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa (Habitat GO) and Wounded Warriors Canada (WWC) have joined forces to help make homeownership a reality for more Canadian veterans in the Ottawa area.
The partnership is intended to raise awareness of Habitat GO’s homeownership and volunteer opportunities as well as WWC’s life-changing mental health programs benefiting ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members, veterans, first responders and their families.

We are proud to join forces with Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa on their Military Build program and look forward to seeing a veteran family receive the support they deserve through the achievement and security and that comes with homeownership.”
Since 1993, Habitat GO has partnered with 72 families in the Greater Ottawa area. Phase 1 of Leacross Landing, the non-profit’s largest development to date, is underway with four townhomes currently under construction in Orléans. Phase II is expected to begin this spring.
The non-profit began partnering with organizations supporting Ottawa-area veterans when it began its successful Military Build program two years ago. Sponsored by Lockheed Martin, Military Build encourages Canadian veterans, active duty military members and reserve members to give back to their community while volunteering at Habitat GO’s build sites.
Habitat GO held its first-ever Veterans Build Day on the day before Remembrance Day in 2017, which attracted more than 25 veterans and active-duty military who helped build four homes. Representatives from WWC and Retired Lt.-Gen. Andrew Leslie, the MP for Ottawa-Orléans, were also on hand.
“Our hope in partnering with Wounded Warriors Canada is that veterans and their families will become aware of our Homeownership Program, and learn how they can help build and then purchase a home in partnership with Habitat for Humanity,” says Alexis Ashworth, Habitat GO’s CEO. “Together, we are helping families build strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.”
