Tim Syer, WWC Ambassador, Northwest Territories
Tim grew up hearing stories about his grandfather’s service as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force and his great grandfather’s service as a stretcher-bearer in World War I and this fostered a deep respect and reverence for those who have served their country.
In 2003, after completing his studies in maritime security at Dalhousie University, Tim joined the Royal Canadian Navy as a Maritime Surface Officer. During his seven years in the Navy, Tim served as a Boarding Party Officer, Diving Officer and Deck Officer in the Navy’s frigates and destroyers. In 2006, Tim went on exchange with the Royal Australian Navy and served for a year there as a bridge watch-keeper on an Australian frigate. While serving in HMCS Algonquin, Tim met his wife, also a Maritime Surface Officer.
Tim left the Navy and in 2010 attended law school at the University of British Columbia. Tim and Melissa now call Yellowknife home and are embracing Canadian northern living. Tim now practices corporate and commercial law in the Yellowknife office of a Western Canadian regional firm.
Since leaving the Navy and throughout his transition to a civilian career, Tim has been grateful for the skills and work ethic that the Navy equipped him with. Tim has stayed involved with the Canadian Armed Forces and continues to give back to his community. He is grateful for the opportunity to work with and represent Wounded Warriors Canada in the North.
