RAMA POLICE, RAMA FIRE, AND RAMA PARAMEDIC SERVICES PARTNER WITH WOUNDED WARRIORS CANADA
Wounded Warriors Canada is proud to announce an historic new partnership with Rama Police, Rama Fire, and Rama Paramedic Services that will see the organizations work together to offer innovative mental health training and counselling services to the First Responders of of Rama First Nation. Through this partnership, WWC will offer occupationally informed services that incorporate a blend of education, counselling, and training approaches, fostering resilience and aiding recovery from post-trauma injuries.
Jerel Swamp, Chief of Police for Rama Police Service, reiterated the importance of supporting our personnel. “As a First Response agency, our employees are our biggest asset. They work in situations that test their physical, emotional, and mental health constantly. It is crucial that we take care of our employees.” He further remarked, “We are always seeking better ways to support our members, and Wounded Warriors presents an excellent avenue for achieving that.”
The mental health challenges faced by first responders are significant. Jeremy Parkin, Fire Chief of Rama Fire, says, “The mental toll of being a first responder can be heavy. It is a priority for us to provide as many resources as possible for our front-line staff, enabling them to prepare for and navigate the stressful aspects of their jobs. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and this partnership with Wounded Warriors offers us a vital opportunity to keep our staff resilient and healthy.”
Harri Hamalainen, Operations Manager for Rama Paramedic Services, emphasizes the familial bond among their team. “Our staff are a second family. Our goal is to ensure they return home healthy and happy at the end of each day. Families take care of each other, and Wounded Warriors will help us do just that.”
Scott Maxwell, Executive Director of Wounded Warriors Canada, explains, “Given the complexities of operational stress injuries, we know that no single organization can provide the 100% solution when it comes to the mental health and wellness needs of its members and their families. Partnerships are vital.” He adds, “We are proud to announce this innovative new partnership with the First Responder agencies of Rama First Nation and look forward to working together in the months and years to come.”
