Park of Reflection Construction Begins!!

Located in the historical Cullen Central Park in Whitby, Ontario, the Park of Reflection will be a living Tribute to all of Canada’s uniformed service personnel and their families, who have served internationally or domestically, and were injured in the line of duty. The park’s design symbolizes and augments their journey back to health, and represents the sacrifice those in uniform and their families have made for the greater safety and security of Canada and freedom around the world. The Park of Reflection will be a place for all Canadian’s to visit, reflect, and remember the cost of service and its impact on families.

The design of the park consists of a large circular plaza composed of a double-path labyrinth, an inset healing garden, and sitting walls with a central sculpture. The labyrinth and sculpture represents the journey taken by our ill and injured – from physical, emotional or mental trauma back to their families and community, and with the community’s help, towards increased self-reliance, self-awareness and confidence.

The experience of the park is formal yet exploratory with purposeful pathways and aromatic plants that will help transpose the visitors to a ‘better place’. The healing garden, in conjunction with the labyrinth, can be interpreted as a natural pathway back to wellness.

The goal of the park is to provide a space that speaks to the visiting ill and injured and their family with abstract and symbolic representation of familiar experiences they have endured. Secondly, the park is meant to communicate to members of the community about their obligation to support our ill and injured service personnel in their time of need and journey in healing.

The Park of Reflection is the creation of Daimian Boyne – a Canadian Armed Forces Veteran and Whitby resident. The initial funding to support the design and construction has been provided by Wounded Warriors Canada. Funds are being recouped by Wounded Warriors Canada as a result of the ongoing financial contributions from corporate, private and community association donations.

Tribute Stones:

Tribute stones have been created to be inlayed it the labyrinth pathway with the names of the ill and injured to recognize their sacrifice to our communities and country.

For a $500 donation, a company, community or family can put forward the name of an ill or injured service member to be engraved with the details that member wishes to be disclosed such as Name, date of service, Regimental or unit affiliation, badge etc. For those who do not have a name to submit and still wish to purchase a Tribute stone we will find a person of the service you wish to pay Tribute to.

Additionally, plants for the garden can be purchased by making a $25.00 donation to Wounded Warriors Canada, c/o Park of Reflection.

To purchase a Tribute Stone or plants, please contact Daimian Boyne directly: daimian@woundedwarriors.ca

We wish to thank The Town of Whitby for their help and ongoing assistance towards this project. We also want to express our most sincere appreciation and thanks to all of our current and future donors.

Your support has ensured that the Park of Reflection will be funded without impacting, in any way or by any measure, the annual Program Budget of Wounded Warriors Canada.
