WOUNDED WARRIORS CANADA PARTNERS WITH YORK REGION PARAMEDICS

NEWMARKET – Wounded Warriors Canada is proud to announce a new partnership with the Regional Municipality of York’s Paramedic Services. Under the agreement, Paramedics Services will share resources and identify or refer paramedics in need of mental health supports and services to the programs offered by WWC.

“This new partnership reaffirms our commitment towards building and maintaining positive mental health for paramedics and complements the programs and services we already offer,” said Chris Spearen, Chief of York Region Paramedic Services. “Our priority is to ensure paramedics have access to the care and services they need, when they need them.”

Paramedics are highly trained and skilled clinical professionals who are often the first to arrive at an emergency. Due to the nature of their work, they often face challenging situations that test their physical or mental health and safety. WWC’s innovative approach to mental health combines clinical best practices and evidence-informed care to create an environment of compassion, hope and resiliency for participants.

“This partnership recognizes there is no one organization that can do it all when it comes to mental health support,” says Scott Maxwell, Executive Director of Wounded Warriors Canada. “When a first responder is struggling, what matters is they and their family receive the help they need and deserve. We are proud to partner with York Region Paramedic Services and look forward to helping support paramedics and their families in their time of need.”

York Region offers a variety of mental health supports to paramedics, including access to a Paramedic Peer Support Team, a Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) team, the Region’s Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) and training through the Road to Mental Readiness (R2MR) for Paramedics program. Mental health services are also offered in partnership with other community and health professionals through York Region’s Mental Health Matters initiative.
