Dr. Tim Black, R. Psych. Joins Wounded Warriors Canada as National Clinical Advisor

March 14, 2017

TORONTO – Wounded Warriors Canada (WWC) is proud to announce that Dr. Tim Black, R. Psych., has joined the organization on a pro-bono basis to serve as the WWC National Clinical Advisor (NCA). Dr. Black is an Associate Professor of Counselling Psychology at the University of Victoria who specializes in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Military to Civilian Transition and group counselling approaches. He has been working with the Canadian military and Veteran community as a clinician and researcher for 20 years, has co-developed national programs for Veterans in transition, and is the co-founder and lead researcher of the Wounded Warriors Canada COPE (Couples Overcoming PTSD Every Day) Program. Dr. Black has trained psychologists and counselling clinicians across Canada to work with Veterans and is training the next generation of counsellors at the University of Victoria to understand issues related to Veterans and their families in transition from military to civilian life.

Scott Maxwell, Executive Director of Wounded Warriors Canada, commented, “For Wounded Warriors Canada, program development and delivery represents the driving force of our mission to honour and support our ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans, First Responders and their families. Given the growth of our national programming, and having expanded to include support for First Responders and their families, we believe that having Dr. Black on our team will provide an additional level of expert review, which will only strengthen our robust program delivery. ”

Dr. Tim Black commented, “Wounded Warriors Canada is leading the way in helping Veterans, First Responders and their families cope with the challenges of living with an Operational Stress Injury. I am honoured to take on the role as the WWC National Clinical Advisor and look forward to supporting their current and future programming efforts.”

The role of Wounded Warriors Canada National Clinical Advisor (NCA) is being created in partnership with the University of Victoria – Dr. Black’s home university and a Canadian Institute for Military and Veterans Health Research partner. The NCA will serve to maintain and improve Wounded Warriors Canada’s current clinical programs by providing advice and systematic evaluation of programs. The NCA will also advise and assist in the evaluation of the efficacy, viability, objectives and overall contribution of any new programs to the well-being of Veterans, First Responders and their families.
