WOUNDED WARRIORS CANADA PARTNERS WITH NORTHWEST TERRITORIES FIRE CHIEFS ASSOCIATION

We are incredibly proud to announce our new partnership with the Northwest Territories Fire Chiefs Association. While First Responders serving in rural and remote parts of Canada experience traumatic events not unlike their colleagues in urban communities, the accessibility of culturally specific training and counselling programs is uneven and needs to improve.

Through this historic partnership, we will formally embed our mental health training and counselling programs into the 25 fire departments serving 33 communities to help enhance the culturally specific and trauma informed supports available to their members and their families.

“We are stepping up as a group to say we take the mental health of our responders seriously. Having this partnership will assist us with being healthier and better versions of ourselves, and our departments felt the need to provide enhanced and essential support to our firefighters’ and their families.”

Nelson Johnson, Yellowknife Fire Chief & President of the NWTFCA.

Specifically, the NWTFCA are seeking trauma-based peer support training, leadership training and group counselling services for individuals, couples, and children of their Trauma Exposed Professionals.
