Announcing the 2016 Battlefield Bike Ride – The Italian Campaign

TORONTO, Oct. 15, 2015 /CNW/ – Wounded Warriors Canada (WWC) is proud to announce that they will host their third annual Battlefield Bike Ride – The Italian Campaign. Following the success of their ride this June, from Vimy Ridge, France to Groesbeek Cemetary in Nijmegen, the 2016 Battlefield Bike Ride (BBR16) will build on the experiences of the past two years and promises an awe inspiring cycling journey, celebrating and reflecting on Canada’s considerable contributions to the Italian Campaign in WW2.

The participants, composed of Canadians from coast-to-coast, fundraise in support of the life changing and family saving programs Wounded Warriors Canada funds nationally to assist our ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans, and their families. Over the past two years, Battlefield Bike Ride cyclists, their donors, and ride sponsors have raised over $800,000 for Wounded Warriors Canada programming.

Scott Maxwell, Executive Director of Wounded Warriors Canada, commented, “For seven months, our participants train and fundraise to support our Veterans living with operational stress injures like PTSD. For seven days, we come together as one Team Canada, commemorating our proud military history and honouring the fallen. This event is the embodiment of our organization’s guiding ethos to honour the fallen and help the living and we look forward to another outstanding event”.

Todd McGowan, Battlefield Bike Ride Operations Manager, commented, “As a veteran, and a PTSD affected soldier, I have seen firsthand the incredible benefits of the programs that Wounded Warriors Canada funds. As a ride organizer and participant, I have the unique opportunity to both go through my own healing process as well as directly supporting others with their process. I feel incredibly fortunate to witness the impact, friendships, and team spirit this transformational event can bring to Canadians from coast to coast.”

The 2016 WWC Battlefield Bike Ride is open to all Canadians. Registration opens on Monday, October 26th. For complete ride information visit: www.bbr16.ca
