WOUNDED WARRIORS CANADA PARTNERS WITH CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES POLICE SERVICE
Wounded Warriors Canada is proud to announce a partnership with The city of Kawartha Lakes Police Service aimed at bolstering mental health resources for their front line members, and families.
“As we embarked on our wellness journey after Mike Brodericks death, it became clear that there is no one-size-fits-all service that will assist our members and their families. Our partnership with Wounded Warriors Canada is a significant step forward in meeting our members and their families’ diversified needs when dealing with the trauma and stress associated with a career in policing,” said Tom Hickey, Inspector Support Services at City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service.
Members of the Kawartha Lakes Police Service are highly trained professionals who are confronted with traumatic situations that can be difficult to process due to the nature of their work. It is estimated that the average police officer will experience hundreds of traumatic events in their career.
“Given the complexities of operational stress injuries, we know that no single organization can provide 100% solution when it comes to the mental health and wellness needs of its members and their families. Partnerships are vital. Together, we are working to break down barriers to accessing culturally appropriate mental health care while reducing stigma for those who serve. We’re grateful for their willingness to collaborate, and we look forward to working with the Kawartha Lakes Police Service in the months and years to come,” said Scott Maxwell, Executive Director of Wounded Warriors Canada.
Through this partnership, Kawartha Lakes Police Service front line members, and their families will gain access to Wounded Warriors Canada’s wide range of culturally specific mental health counselling programs, such as the Trauma Resiliency Program, Couples Overcoming PTSD Everyday (COPE) program, the Spousal Resiliency Program, and Warrior Kids Camp and Virtual program. By fostering a culture of openness and support, Kawartha Lakes Police Service aims to create an environment where members feel empowered to prioritize their mental well-being without stigma or hesitation.
