WOUNDED WARRIORS CANADA ANNOUNCES SEVENTH DOCTORAL SCHOLAR STUDENT IN VETERANS HEALTH RESEARCH

Ottawa – Wounded Warriors Canada is proud to announce that Ashley Williams from Queen’s University in Kingston has been selected as the seventh recipient of the Wounded Warriors Doctoral Scholarship. In 2013, Wounded Warriors Canada made a 10-year, $400,000 doctoral scholarship commitment to the Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research (CIMVHR). The gift funds new scholarships for students from universities across Canada as they research issues relevant to serving and retired members of the Canadian Armed Forces and their families.

Scott Maxwell, Executive Director of Wounded Warriors Canada, commented, “Research is vital when assessing the most effective ways to support our ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans, First Responders and their families and our Doctoral Scholarship is making this research possible. Today we are very proud to welcome our seventh Doctoral Scholar, Ashley Williams. »

Ashley Williams, WWC 2019 Doctoral Scholarship recipient, commented, “As a budding researcher, my mission is to improve the lives of military members, Veterans, and their families through knowledge generation, translation, and application; or as CIMVHR eloquently puts it: to serve those who serve us. I am truly grateful to Wounded Warriors Canada and CIMVHR for their support in helping me to realize this mission and for their investment in the next generation or researchers in military, Veteran, and family health.”

Williams is currently researching how CAF members transition from Canadian Forces Health Services to provincial primary care services. She will be interviewing recently released Canadian Armed Forces Veterans about their health service transition experience and examining how an interdisciplinary primary care team provides care to Canadian Armed Forces Veterans.
