Marissa is Paramedic with the BC Emergency Health Services, and a volunteer Fire Fighter with the Otter Point Volunteer Fire Department. Originally from a small town in Alberta, Marissa permanently made the move to Vancouver Island in 2017. Her draw to the island came after spending two summers working as a research assistant in the field of Marine Biology on the Northern parts of the Island.<\/p>\n
Although she enjoyed the path she was on, she recognized she wasn\u2019t as passionate about it as she\u2019d hoped. While deciding what to do next, she started volunteering her time to RCM-SAR Station #35 in Victoria. It was here that she discovered the world of First Response, and has been following a passion in that work ever since.<\/p>\n

This cause is important to her because she has been affected by PTSD from a culmination of past events, and was fortunate enough too have found support and a treatment strategy to help successfully managing this disorder. She has regaining a joy filled life, and wants others to have the resources to do the same.<\/p>\n
Marissa has spent much of her life as a runner, specifically as a track & field sprinter and jumper, and felt this event was a nice fit for her to be able to get involved and give back.<\/p>\n
