Laura Bruce

Laura, being the second youngest in a family of 12, was born and raised in the small mining town of Florence, Cape Breton, NS.  After finishing high school, she obtained her Medical Office Assistant Diploma from the Cape Breton Business Collage and worked for a year in Toronto when she realized that office work was not her thing.  Laura decided to join the CF as a Medical Assistant in November 1988.  Her postings as a medic included 1 Field Ambulance Calgary and 1 Service Battalion, Edmonton.  In 1997, Laura remustered to Preventive Medicine and was posted to 2 RCR Gagetown .  In 2002, she was posted to CFB Borden as the Base PMed Tech and was promoted to Sergeant.

Laura served overseas in the Gulf War in 1991 with the 1 Canadian Field Hospital and has two tours to Bosnia, one in 1994 with 1 PPCLI and 1 CER and one in 1999 with 2RCR.  Laura is a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and represented 2RCR at Eastern Canadian Championship in Hamilton Ontario 1998 where she won the silver medal.  Laura has been known to dabble in several other martial arts such as Aikido, kickboxing and Karate.  Her love for competitive fighting no doubt comes for her father and two uncles who are all inductees in the Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame.    Laura is a level 2 ski instructor and a level 1 competitive swim coach.  Her passion, however, is cycling and has participated in two Battlefield Bike Rides and many Grand Fondos around the Maritimes.  Laura was the recipient of the Colonel Commandants Shield and the Akweks Award for Top overall achievement on her TQ3 Medical Assistant and PL6A PMed Courses.  In 1998, Laura applied for UTPNCM and was credited her OPME and O-DP2 Military Law and was well on her way to obtaining her Bachelor of Commerce Degree through the University of Manitoba when she had to cut her dreams short after becoming seriously ill with an OSI, being diagnosed with PTSD in 2002.  She was medically released from the military in 2006.  She is now the co owner of a successful Network Marketing business. Laura lives in Halifax NS with her two daughters Cali and Emma and her service dog Bally.
